Ingredients
Scale
Dip Mixture
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 14 ounces sour cream
- 10 ounce can Rotel, drained (diced tomatoes with green chiles)
- 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened to room temperature
- 1/2 cup chopped ham
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Topping and Bread
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup chopped ham
- 1 green onion, sliced
- 16 ounce French bread loaf
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set the oven temperature to 350° F to prepare for baking the dip.
- Mix the dip ingredients: In a bowl, combine 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, drained Rotel, softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup chopped ham, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir thoroughly until well combined.
- Prepare the bread: Cut the top of the French bread loaf in an oval shape, making sure not to cut through the bottom side. Remove the cut pieces and hollow out the interior bread, reserving the removed bread for dipping.
- Fill the bread: Spoon the cheese mixture into the hollowed-out bread loaf evenly.
- Add the topping: Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese over the filled bread.
- Wrap and bake: Wrap the loaf loosely with aluminum foil, ensuring the foil does not touch the cheese to prevent sticking, and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 45 minutes or until the dip is heated through.
- Finish and serve: Remove the dip from the oven. Top with the remaining chopped ham and sliced green onions. Optionally, sprinkle additional red pepper flakes on top for extra heat. Serve warm with the reserved bread pieces for dipping.
Notes
- This dip is best served warm to enjoy the creamy, melted cheese texture.
- You can substitute ham with cooked bacon or sausage for a different flavor profile.
- For a spicier dip, add more red pepper flakes or some chopped jalapeños to the mixture.
- Use nonstick aluminum foil to prevent cheese from sticking during baking.
- The hollowed-out bread can also be toasted separately for extra crunchiness when dipping.
