Description

Grilled Sausage With Peppers and Onions is a simple and delicious recipe featuring Italian sausages grilled to perfection alongside charred bell peppers and onions. This quick and flavorful dish is perfect for weeknight dinners or casual entertaining, offering a classic combination that pairs wonderfully with toasted rolls or your favorite side dishes.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausages

  • 6 mild or hot Italian sausages

Vegetables

  • 2 green bell peppers
  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 2 Vidalia or yellow onions

Seasonings and Oil

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Red pepper flakes, optional

Instructions

  1. Heat the grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat and place a grill pan on it. Allow the grill pan to heat for approximately 5 minutes before cooking.
  2. Prepare the vegetables: While the grill is heating, core and slice the red and green bell peppers into strips. Peel and slice the Vidalia or yellow onions. Place all the sliced vegetables in a large bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Toss to coat evenly.
  3. Cook the sausages: Place the sausages on the hot grill pan. Grill them for 2 to 3 minutes per side until they are slightly charred and cooked through. Once done, remove the sausages from the grill pan, place them on a plate, and tent with foil to keep warm.
  4. Grill the vegetables: Add the prepared peppers and onions to the grill pan. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes, tossing occasionally, until the edges are charred and the vegetables are tender. Remove from the grill pan when done.
  5. Serve: Plate the grilled sausages with the charred peppers and onions. Serve with your favorite side dish or inside toasted rolls for a satisfying meal.

Notes

  • This dish works well for quick weeknight dinners or casual gatherings, offering a balanced meal with protein and vegetables.
  • Use mild or spicy Italian sausages depending on your heat preference.
  • If you don't have a grill pan, you can use a cast-iron skillet on a stovetop grill or bake the sausages and vegetables instead.
  • Optional red pepper flakes add a nice kick if you like more spice.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently.
