Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 8 oz uncooked short pasta (farfalle, elbow noodles, penne, rigatoni, ziti, rotini, or Fiber Gourmet/gluten free/whole grain pasta)
- 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- Pinch of red chili flakes (optional)
- Olive oil cooking spray, as needed
Instructions
- Boil the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to the package directions until al dente. Drain the pasta thoroughly.
- Season the pasta: Transfer the drained pasta to a large mixing bowl. Spray a generous amount of olive oil cooking spray over the pasta and toss well to coat evenly.
- Add spices and cheese: Sprinkle in the grated Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, kosher salt, black pepper, and red chili flakes if using. Toss again to combine all the flavors thoroughly.
- Prepare for cooking: Depending on your cooking method, proceed as follows:
- Air Fryer Method: Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F. Arrange the pasta in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overlapping. You may need to cook in batches depending on your air fryer capacity.
- Cook in Air Fryer: Cook for 4 minutes at 400 degrees F. Toss the pasta chips and cook for an additional 5 minutes or until they reach your desired crispness. Repeat with remaining pasta.
- Oven Method: Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the pasta in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the pasta chips: Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
- Serve: Serve the pasta chips warm with your choice of dipping sauces such as zero point marinara sauce, homemade skinny Alfredo sauce, cheese dip, or skinny ranch sauce.
Notes
- Make sure to cook the pasta al dente so it crisps up well during cooking and doesn't become mushy.
- Tossing the pasta with olive oil spray before seasoning helps the flavors stick and promotes even crisping.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket or baking sheet to ensure all pasta pieces get crispy.
- Use gluten free, whole grain, or Fiber Gourmet pasta to suit dietary preferences or restrictions.
- For extra flavor, add different herbs or a sprinkle of smoked paprika or nutritional yeast.
- This snack is perfect for parties, game days, or as a fun twist on traditional chips.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container and re-crisp in the oven or air fryer if desired.
