Description

Crispy and flavorful Pasta Chips made from short pasta like farfalle or penne, seasoned with Italian herbs and Parmesan cheese, perfect as a snack or appetizer. They can be cooked in an air fryer or baked in the oven for a quick and delicious treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 8 oz uncooked short pasta (farfalle, elbow noodles, penne, rigatoni, ziti, rotini, or Fiber Gourmet/gluten free/whole grain pasta)
  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • Pinch of red chili flakes (optional)
  • Olive oil cooking spray, as needed

Instructions

  1. Boil the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to the package directions until al dente. Drain the pasta thoroughly.
  2. Season the pasta: Transfer the drained pasta to a large mixing bowl. Spray a generous amount of olive oil cooking spray over the pasta and toss well to coat evenly.
  3. Add spices and cheese: Sprinkle in the grated Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, kosher salt, black pepper, and red chili flakes if using. Toss again to combine all the flavors thoroughly.
  4. Prepare for cooking: Depending on your cooking method, proceed as follows:
  5. Air Fryer Method: Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F. Arrange the pasta in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overlapping. You may need to cook in batches depending on your air fryer capacity.
  6. Cook in Air Fryer: Cook for 4 minutes at 400 degrees F. Toss the pasta chips and cook for an additional 5 minutes or until they reach your desired crispness. Repeat with remaining pasta.
  7. Oven Method: Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the pasta in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake the pasta chips: Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
  9. Serve: Serve the pasta chips warm with your choice of dipping sauces such as zero point marinara sauce, homemade skinny Alfredo sauce, cheese dip, or skinny ranch sauce.

Notes

  • Make sure to cook the pasta al dente so it crisps up well during cooking and doesn't become mushy.
  • Tossing the pasta with olive oil spray before seasoning helps the flavors stick and promotes even crisping.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket or baking sheet to ensure all pasta pieces get crispy.
  • Use gluten free, whole grain, or Fiber Gourmet pasta to suit dietary preferences or restrictions.
  • For extra flavor, add different herbs or a sprinkle of smoked paprika or nutritional yeast.
  • This snack is perfect for parties, game days, or as a fun twist on traditional chips.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and re-crisp in the oven or air fryer if desired.
