Ingredients
Scale
Cauliflower Wings
- 1 medium head cauliflower
- 3/4 cup flour
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 3/4 cup unsweetened vegan milk
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
Buffalo Sauce
- 1/2 cup vinegar based hot sauce (such as Frank's hot sauce)
- 1 tablespoon vegan butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2-3 tablespoons maple syrup
Cooling Ranch Dip
- Prepared vegan ranch dip (quantity as desired)
Instructions
- Prepare the Cauliflower: Preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut the cauliflower into bite-sized florets and set aside.
- Make the Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Slowly add the vegan milk and stir until you get a smooth batter that can coat the cauliflower evenly.
- Coat the Cauliflower: Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, then roll them in panko breadcrumbs to coat thoroughly. Place the coated florets onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake the Wings: Bake the coated cauliflower florets in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until crispy and golden, flipping halfway through for even cooking.
- Prepare the Buffalo Sauce: While the cauliflower bakes, melt the vegan butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the hot sauce, garlic powder, and maple syrup. Cook for 2-3 minutes until well combined and slightly thickened.
- Toss Cauliflower in Sauce: Once the cauliflower wings are baked, transfer them to a large bowl and toss with the prepared buffalo sauce until well coated.
- Final Bake: Return the sauced cauliflower wings to the baking sheet and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes to let the sauce set and intensify flavors.
- Serve: Remove from oven and serve hot with a side of cooling vegan ranch dip for dipping.
Notes
- Use a medium cauliflower head for best results; double the batter and sauce for larger heads.
- For extra crispiness, broil the wings for 1-2 minutes at the end of baking but watch carefully to avoid burning.
- Adjust the amount of maple syrup in the buffalo sauce to tweak sweetness and balance the heat.
- For gluten-free option, replace flour and panko with gluten-free alternatives.
- Buffalo cauliflower wings make a great vegan appetizer or party snack.
